Round 2 Debrief
Additional Interpretation Samples

A new debrief, separate from Round 1. This document registers a fresh set of additional interpretation samples we are asking IFF to run — READ (Oba), POUR (Karagueuzoglou), and DIM (Lebeau) — in parallel with the Round 1 detailed feedback that will follow after our United Arrows meeting on 23 July.

New debrief · Round 2

This is a new debrief, separate from Round 1.

We received the second-round samples based on the previous debrief. Thank you.

The purpose of this document is not to re-open the Round 1 debrief on the current samples in hand. Detailed feedback on those samples will follow after our United Arrows meeting on 23 July.

The purpose of this document is to register a fresh set of additional interpretation samples. On the first round these additional interpretation asks did not register clearly on the IFF side, so we are re-issuing them here as a standalone Round 2 debrief with the original scent briefs attached.

Why we are asking for new samples before the 23rd

We are running out of time. To keep the launch order on track we need to place the first launch order by the end of July, which means the new interpretation samples need to be in motion in parallel with the Round 1 detailed feedback rather than after it.

Per-perfumer briefs

Each card below shows the Round 1 status, the Round 2 new interpretation ask (where applicable), and the original scent brief attached for reference. Each perfumer also has a standalone share page linked from the top of their card, printable and shareable one-to-one.

Round 1: AIR  ·  Round 2 new interpretation: READ
AIR (locked)
READ (new interpretation)
Round 1 · AIR — locked, good to go
AIR formulation is approved. No further reformulation required.

Please carry the current AIR formulation into the launch build as-is. We will confirm ordering quantities in the week following the United Arrows meeting on 23 July.

Round 2 · New interpretation ask
READ — first interpretation and samples, please.

Given AIR is locked, we would like to bring Shinichiro-san onto READ for a first interpretation and sample round. READ is the most structural scent in the line; having a first take from Shinichiro-san before the 23rd will help us close on direction quickly.

Full creative freedom on execution; the original brief below is the reference we shared at the very start of the project.

READ
A defined line — dry, clear, intentional.

A quiet, focused space — wood, paper, and air. Not naturalistic, not aromatic, but structured and intentional. Something you can follow with the eye — a line, a surface, a clearly defined form. This is the most legible scent in the line.

A single line of kuromoji ink on cedar paper.

The smell of a small wooden architect's office in the early morning — paper, fresh-cut cedar, a clean desk.

Temperature cool–dry  ·  Pitch mid, very stable  ·  Color cedar-brown, ink-black  ·  Texture smooth-dry paper, no fuzz  ·  Weight medium, grounded  ·  Shape a vertical line — readable, no diffuse edges

  • 1 · Top — controlled green startBlack pepper (clean, dry) · bergamot (trace) · cardamom (very subtle). Restrained, structured opening; not fresh, not aromatic; slightly sharp but controlled.
  • 2 · Heart — structured coreKuromoji (main axis) · vetiver (clean, dry, grounding) · cedarwood (linear, dry) · galbanum (reduced, supporting). Clear woody axis with kuromoji at center; linear and readable, not layered or dense.
  • 3 · TextureIso E Super (controlled) · ambroxan (low, supportive) · mineral nuance · ink accord (trace). Air + diffusion + subtle abstraction; creates space around the structure; paper / ink / dry air.
  • 4 · Base — dry structural finishVetiver (extended) · cedarwood (extended) · patchouli (clean, controlled) · soft musk (minimal). Stable, grounded base; dry, quiet, present; no sweetness, no warmth, no softness.
  • Cumin
  • Nioikobushi
  • Duplicate green layers
  • Excess aromatic notes
  • Aromatic / herbal tone
  • Over-layered green density
  • Warm spice
  • Creamy softness
  • Overly blended / rounded composition

Spray → controlled pepper-green → defined woody line → paper / ink → dry air

POUR (new interpretation)
Round 1 · FOLD 1 — detailed feedback targeted for post-UA meeting
Detailed feedback on the FOLD 1 sample is targeted for after our United Arrows meeting on 23 July.

The detailed debrief on the current FOLD 1 sample will follow after our United Arrows meeting on 23 July, together with the reformulation direction.

Round 2 · New interpretation ask
POUR — first interpretation and samples, please.

We would like to bring Juliette onto POUR in parallel with the FOLD 1 feedback loop. A first interpretation and sample round on POUR before the end of July will let us close on direction cleanly.

Full creative freedom on execution; the original brief below is the reference we shared at the very start of the project.

POUR
The act of pouring — flow, air, movement, a thin surface.
Category · locked POUR is a gourmand. This must not be misread. The construction leans into grain, milk, orris, and skin-warmth — a soft, edible, body-close gourmand, not a floral, not an aromatic, not an aquatic. Keep the sweetness restrained and the texture skin-adherent, but the category itself is settled: gourmand.

Transparent liquid being poured slowly into a glass in still morning air. Soft grain — like the warmth of breath on a piece of linen. The scent should not feel segmented; it should feel like one continuous surface that naturally settles onto the skin.

A bowl of warm rice water; the moment before the surface breaks.

The quiet domestic moment of pouring — a parent setting down a glass, a kettle being lifted off the stove. Specific, but universally familiar.

Temperature skin-warm, not cool  ·  Pitch mid–low, no sharp highs  ·  Color pale ivory, milk-white  ·  Texture fluid, slightly oily, never sticky  ·  Weight light–medium, diffused  ·  Shape a continuous surface, not segmented stages

  • 1 · Top — fluid green openingCoriander seed (raw, non-sparkling) · petitgrain (controlled) · pear (soft, watery sweetness). Green bitterness balanced by soft sweetness; approachable and diffused; fluid rather than sharp.
  • 2 · Bridge — watery transitionCucumber watery nuance (very brief). Creates moisture and movement; acts as a transition, not a note; must appear briefly and disappear naturally.
  • 3 · Heart — grain + skin axisGrain accord (wheat-centered) · soft milk accord (light) · subtle orris (very low dose). Soft grain + milk texture; rounded but not sweet; continuous into the base.
  • 4 · TextureSubtle oily skin nuance (Debaser-ref, without sweetness) · very light lactonic trace. Skin-adhering texture; slight oiliness without gourmand; adds realism and softness.
  • 5 · Base — skin + diffusionAmbrettolide / ambrette seed · white musk · ambroxan (diffusion) · very light woods (trace). Skin + diffusion + softness; continuous, diffused base; 'folding onto skin' effect.
  • Strong citrus (lime, mandarin)
  • Floral-centered notes
  • Heavy woods
  • Excess or candied sweetness (gourmand should feel edible, not sugary)
  • Fruity impression (pear must stay soft)
  • Creamy heaviness (avoid dessert-heavy texture)
  • Overly green top
  • Sterile cleanness

Spray → soft green + pear → watery transition → grain + milk → skin diffusion

Round 2 · New interpretation ask
DIM — first interpretation and samples, please.

We would like to bring Delphine onto DIM for a first interpretation and sample round, in parallel with the FOLD 2 feedback loop. A first interpretation on DIM before the end of July will let us close on direction cleanly.

DIM
A floral that has already become skin.

A warm, dimly lit fabric space — skin, linen, and a soft floral presence resting in still air. The floral feels closer to skin than to bloom: it is not the smell of a flower, it is the smell of the air around a flower that has been on the body for hours.

A linen sheet that has touched skin for hours; a single gardenia petal pressed inside a book.

The smell of one's own pillow after waking — warm cloth, faint skin, a barely-there floral that you only notice when you press your face into it.

Temperature body-warm (dim, indoor)  ·  Pitch low, no highs  ·  Color honey-warm white, ivory  ·  Texture petal · linen · warm skin  ·  Weight medium, close to body  ·  Shape a wrapping curve, not a bloom

  • 1 · Top — green floral airViolet leaf (transparent, diffused) · soft aldehyde (trace). Green signature across the line; more floral and softer than AIR; 'green, but already becoming skin'.
  • 2 · Water break (flash layer)Aldehyde C11 (ultra trace) · hedione connection. A brief 'droplet' moment; clean cut before warmth; 'a drop falling from a petal'.
  • 3 · Heart — floral skinGardenia (natural, slightly green, non-creamy) · hedione. Petal texture; floral fused into skin; soft, diffused presence (not blooming).
  • 4 · Skin core (Ajedrez direction)Soft leather (clean, refined, skin-like) · honey nuance (trace) · skin accord. Living skin structure; warm, intimate, slightly sensual; not leathery, not sweet.
  • 5 · Depth layerPapyrus (low volume) · incense (very soft) · mineral dry note. Stillness; depth; prevents softness from becoming flat.
  • 6 · Base — linen skinAmbrettolide · white musk · cotton / linen accord. Warm fabric; skin diffusion; soft, intimate dry-down.
  • Milk / lactonic accords
  • Gourmand sweetness
  • Fruity tones
  • Pink pepper (dropped — cassis/blackcurrant instead if any green accent needed)
  • Creamy texture
  • Heavy white floral
  • Obvious leather (smoky / animalic)

Spray → green floral air → water drop → gardenia → skin leather → quiet depth → warm linen

Thank you for the second round. AIR is ready to go, and the additional interpretation samples on READ, POUR, and DIM will let us keep the end-of-July order on track. Detailed feedback for FOLD 1, FOLD 2, and DIM will follow after our United Arrows meeting on 23 July.

Best,
Kelvin
